154 Days Until Election Day

June 3, 2008

MORNING UPDATE:

RED WINGS...oh, what a game! 109 minutes of awesome hockey...on to game 6.

HOW AND WHY THE DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO FIGHT...see the math below.

OBAMA IN TOWN...talks about government's role in the economy...so if you like what Jennifer Granholm has done for Michigan...you'll love what Barack Obama will do for America. You CAN'T tax yourself out of a recession...big government and more taxes are NOT the solution. See more below.

DILLON ENDORSES OBAMA...the Democrat Speaker of the House who jammed through the largest tax hike in Michigan's history jumps on the Obama bandwagon. A sign of things to come...the largest tax increase in America's history...he's already promised that.

PETERS ENDORSES OBAMA...the CMU professor who scammed a state salary to run for Congress on the taxpayer dime; another example of the Obama Team's strategy and willingness to fleece the Michigan taxpayer.

DEMOCRAT ENDORSES DEMOCRAT....where's the news?...except that Kwame Kilpatrick didn't endorse anyone...or maybe wasn't' asked to? With all of Obama's talk of "change" and the "failed policies" of Republicans, will he ask the same of leaders in his own party?

DOES DETROIT'S MAYOR KWAME KILPATRICK ENDORSE OBAMA? DOES OBAMA ENDORSE KWAME?

GLOBAL WARMING...CARBON TAX...CAP AND TRADE... This is easily the largest

income redistribution scheme since the income tax. Congress is considering legislation that has Democrats salivating over this new pot of gold - revenues of some $3.32 trillion by 2050. The Wall Street Journal has a great discussion on this issue.

ROGERS' ENERGY PLAN....USING "NEW" WEB BASED COMMUNICATIONS...Last week, Congressman Mike Rogers (MI) launched an energy plan to declare July 4, 2015 as America's Energy Independence Day. Along with the introduction of a formal bill, Rogers unveiled an aggressive web strategy that includes an interactive flash video cartoon, a YouTube video and the signing of a Declaration of Energy Independence.

HILLARY CLINTON SUPPORTERS ARE MAD...and publicly admit that "Obama has a problem" and said they will vote for McCain. Check out this video of the protests going on as they battle to seat Michigan and Florida voters. The Democrats have a problem.

RECALL BATTLES...looks like the Democrats have ANOTHER problem...they are making false charges, have a staffer who admitted to committing fraud, and were caught purposely signing "forged" signatures to "corrupt" the process. Uh ohhhh?

THE REST OF THE STORY:

OBAMA IN MICHIGAN...

Barack Obama has made two trips to Michigan in the last two weeks and still refuses to retract his vocal criticism of Michigan's auto manufacturers or apologize to voters for ignoring them during the state's presidential primary. Obama only has criticism for Michigan's largest employers and contempt for our voters, yet he's hoping that a few well-staged photo-ops will mollify voter uncertainty about his qualifications to be our Commander in Chief. It will take a lot more than empty rhetoric to do that.

Obama boycotted Michigan for nearly year and took his name off the state's Jan. 15 Presidential Primary ballot under pressure from state Democratic political bosses in New Hampshire and Iowa. Only after Obama had all but wrapped up the Democratic nomination did he schedule a campaign stop in Michigan last month.

Obama just doesn't get Michigan and that's why he's trailing John McCain in the polls.

WHY THE DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO FIGHT...

THE CLINTON MATH:

Popular vote (counting 0 votes for Obama in Michigan)

HRC 17,830,093 (48 percent)

Obama 17,572,717 (47 percent)

Margin: HRC +257,377 (note: Michigan uncommitted vote was 238,168)

Total # participating in D primaries and caucuses: 37,208,535

THE OBAMA MATH:

Total Democrat pledged delegates: 3,406.5 (was 3,253)

Pledged delegates needed for majority: 1,705 (was 1,627)

Total delegates needed for nomination: 2,118 (was 2,026)

Obama pledged delegates: 1,728.5 (23.5 more than needed for the majority)

Obama super delegates: 332.5

Obama total delegates: 2,072

Number of delegates Obama needs to secure the nomination: 46.

TODAY'STOP STORIES

The following stories and more are available at my Articles of Interest online.

Obama working to woo Michigan voters he earlier spurned

TROY, Mich. (AP) - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama got an enthusiastic welcome Monday from Michigan voters who appreciated his talk about doing more to help workers worried about losing their jobs, health care benefits and pensions.

Circulators say Dems forged signatures to spoil Dillon recall

Supporters of the Democrat from Wayne County's Redford Township challenged the validity of several hundred of the signatures that were collected by the recall group and said that state officials should launch a criminal investigation against its organizers. Recall supporters, meanwhile, said that people affiliated with the Michigan Democratic Party planted false names on petitions to try and sabotage the recall campaign.

Fieger is cleared in campaign fund case

DETROIT -- Southfield attorney Geoffrey Fieger and his celebrity attorney, Gerry Spence, embraced and kissed jurors on the courthouse steps Monday after they acquitted Fieger and his law partner Ven Johnson of all criminal charges.

GM could announce possible plant closures, job cuts on Tues.

DETROIT - As General Motors Corp. prepares for its annual shareholders meeting on Tuesday, workers across the country are worried that the next round of the company's restructuring could cost them jobs or even their factories.

Democrats Still Divided on Obama, Clinton

Barack Obama's support from blacks and young people has intensified during his five-month slog through the Democratic primaries. Hillary Rodham Clinton has grown ever stronger among the elderly, especially older white women. Exit polls of voters showing the strength of support for each candidate underscore the challenge facing Mr. Obama: As he shifts his focus to a likely general election against Republican John McCain, he must maintain the loyalty of longtime supporters while winning over Democrats who have been reluctant to budge from Mrs. Clinton.

Editorial: Dems' decision on delegate votes far from democratic

The Democratic National Committee rules panel's decision Saturday to cut the Michigan convention delegation's votes in half is an outrage...The issue is approximately 600,000 votes that were cast in Michigan's Jan. 15 primary election. Half of those votes now have been arbitrarily thrown out on a 15-12 vote by the DNC rules tribunal.

McCain Sharpens His Foreign Policy Attacks on Obama

NASHVILLE - As the bitter Democratic presidential nomination battle was consumed by rancorous maneuverings, Senator John McCain honed his national security message before Jewish leaders on Monday, saying Senator Barack Obama's policies toward Iraq and Iran would create chaos in the Middle East and endanger the United States and Israel.

Editorial: Build a buffer into Michigan's budget

You didn't have to be a Nobel laureate to survey Michigan's economic landscape back in February and predict that with oil prices steadily rising and automobile sales steadily falling, there was a pretty good chance of conditions worsening this year...And yet our political leaders continue to base their spending plans on the most hopeful of projections

Kent County GOP headquarters broken into

GRAND RAPIDS -- The headquarters of the Kent County Republicans was broken into, leaving computers smashed, files thrown and banners ripped from the wall. A laptop was stolen, as well. The incident occurred sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning when authorities say those responsible forced their way through a locked door
