MORNING
UPDATE:
SECOND MRP-RNC VOTER VAULT TRAINING A
SUCCESS...46 attended Sunday's session in Lansing and at our first
session on Saturday, we had over 50 activists gather in Macomb
county to see the latest Voter Vault has to offer. With the RNC's
help, we were able to help prepare our grassroots activists and
local candidates for the campaign ahead. Michigan Republicans are
ready!!!
OBAMA...POLITICS AS USUAL...the bottom line is
that Obama is a conventional politician who always takes the safe
and easy political road -- a political opportunist. McCain is
a patriot, somebody who has put sacrifice above self. So who
do you want as our next President...our next Commander in
Chief?
Obama has been shifting, wiggling and evolving on
just about every major issue he proposed during the primary.
FISA, campaign finance, NAFTA, retreat in Iraq, meeting with rogue
international leaders, Rev. Wright, guns??? Where does he
stand on any issue other than raising taxes? Again, politics
as usual.
John
McCain has a very different and realistic vision for America's
future...we can't afford the risk of an Obama presidency.
Country first vs. political
expediency.
OBAMA'S AMERICA IS CANADA...he is following
Granholm's policies in Michigan, which were "born" in Canada...well
here is a
great op-ed piece on what Obama's vision of America
is...Canada? A must read.
CENTER-RIGHT COALITION GETS BEHIND
McCAIN...here is
a good article written by Grover Norquist, who discusses how
and why conservatives rally behind McCain.
HOW
ABOUT EFFICIENT AND GOOD GOVERNMENT...NOW - DEMAND TRANSPARENCY IN
GOVERNMENT SPENDING...is a critical effort by officials at the
state level led by Jack Hoogendyk (who is running for the U.S.
Senate) to empower taxpayers to become fiscal watchdogs by making
expenditures available on the Internet. Michigan needs
comprehensive legislation mandating the creation of a website
detailing state expenditure information. Attorney
General Mike Cox and Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land have
unilaterally posted their departments expenditures online...the
Republicans who run departments...without legislation or being
required them to do so. What are the Democrats and Governor trying
to hide???

TODAY'S TOP STORIES
The following stories and more are available online.
McCain gets boost from Romney fans
It didn't take long for Scott Romney to schedule a meeting in
February with Sen. John McCain's campaign staff. His brother Mitt
Romney -- a Michigan native, Republican candidate for president and
former Massachusetts governor -- had just ended his presidential
run Feb. 7.
Op-Ed Columnist The Choice They Made
Half a century ago the philosopher Leo Strauss remarked that the
passage in which the Declaration of Independence proclaims its
self-evident truths "has frequently been quoted, but, by its weight
and its elevation, it is made immune to the degrading effects of
the excessive familiarity which breeds contempt and of misuse which
breeds disgust."
Detroit: Governor needs to move on review of
Kilpatrick's tenure as mayor
Gov. Jennifer Granholm has plenty of personal reasons to keep her
distance from the scandal consuming Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
A Democratic governor targeting a Democratic mayor in the state's
largest city is not what the Democrats have in mind for a promising
election year. Nevertheless, Granholm has to fully confront
Kilpatrick and his scandal-plagued administration. Cities matter in
the health of states; Michigan isn't going to have a bright future
if Detroit has a dismal one.
Gary Wolfram: Don't let state dictate energy
choices
Legislation that would guarantee Michigan's two major power
companies will always have a trapped base of 90 percent of their
prior year's customers has passed the Michigan House and is in the
Senate. This means that if Michigan consumers want to switch from
Detroit Edison to another electric company for lower rates or
better service, they may need to act fast. This proposal empowers
policymakers in Lansing to decide what company can best provide
customers with electricity and what the optimal market share should
be.
Obama trip abroad aims to aid image
While Sen. Barack Obama has pledged to meet with foreign leaders
even before he takes office if he is elected president, it is Sen.
John McCain who has enjoyed the solo spotlight on the world stage,
bolstering his already jam-packed resume on international
affairs.
State budget deal is a missed
opportunity
First the praise for the new state budget agreed to by the state
Legislature and Gov. Jennifer Granholm: It limits the growth of
spending, and the parties mostly came to agreement in a timely
fashion and without the rancor that pushed last year's budget
deliberations deep into the fall. Credit an election year for
motivating lawmakers to get most of the job done.
Layoffs haunt Ford salaried staff
It is a difficult time for workers at Ford Motor Co.'s world
headquarters. Across the automaker's sprawling Dearborn campus last
week, managers held "all-hands meetings" and delivered grim news
about layoffs, according to workers who attended the sessions. One
section of product development was told nearly 20 percent of
employees will lose their jobs. In a research department, 10
percent of the engineers will be let go. And in communications, an
entire group already has been eliminated.
In face of sluggish economy, college enrollment
rising
In the midst of economic downturn, layoffs, buyouts and numerous
"not hiring" signs, there is one industry that continues to see the
number of consumers increase. Across the state, the number of
students in colleges and universities are growing.
City contractor snubs FBI
investigation
Detroit businessman, who was the local partner on a city of Detroit
waste contract that is under federal investigation, rebuffed a
request from the FBI to cooperate with the investigation by wearing
a hidden electronic surveillance device, persons familiar with the
case said.
