NO 2nd Debate In Michigan
I want to thank The Detroit News, Wayne State University and the various networks we worked with to try and come up with a second debate in Michigan before the January 15th primary. We had proposed the Detroit International Auto Show as a natural backdrop for a debate that would have once again highlighted an important industry to Michigan and our country.
For a variety of reasons, that didn’t work out. We then scrambled to try and pull something together on the campus of Wayne State University, one of America’s great urban institutions located in the heart of Detroit…and we literally ran out of time with the holidays and all.
There is NO time to try any other venues or options…so there will be NO second debate.
Our primary is set for January 15th. Given the competitiveness and ever shifting political environment, Michigan’s primary will be VERY important on both sides of the partisan divide. Republicans will be emerging from the early states with Michigan either being a “confirming” vote or “tie breaker” as we move into super Tuesday. On the Democrats side, Hillary Clinton inevitable coronation is all but turned on its head and with the Democrat Chair Mark Brewer urging Democrat voters to vote “uncommitted” in the primary…Hillary could suffer a huge blow here if she doesn’t do well.
Michigan will be front and center for some of the most exciting politics of our lifetime.
Again, thanks for all you do and for all of your help in our efforts.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays…it’s going to be a great New Years!!!
