Broken Promises Calendar:  No Results from Governor Granholm

"She will cut up to 5% of the general fund budget through reductions in administrative and overhead costs for an estimated savings of up to $450 million." (Blueprint for Michigan, pg. 26, September 2002)

This is not tough math.  Since 2003, the General Fund budget has increased by 4.8%, or by $422 million.  It began at $8.83 billion, while the Governor’s FY07 Executive Budget proposal recommends General Fund spending of $9.25 billion. A cut?  Not a chance.  (Office of the State Budget)

"A fondness for power is implanted, in most men (and women), and it is natural to abuse it, when acquired."

-- Alexander Hamilton (The Farmer Refuted, 23 February 1775)

The “sounds of silence” continue.  The Granholm campaign is going up today with a 4-day media buy, paltry...waste of dollars over the Labor Day weekend...only 500 pts. in the outstate markets and it drops to 350 pts. in Detroit, this following 48 hours of no Michigan Democratic Party or Granholm for Governor message on TV???  Lack of money, bad strategy or are they getting those nasty super secret 527 attack ads ready?

Senator Debbie Stabenow’s campaign released its second television advertisement Wednesday. The ad, entitled “Michigan Way of Life,” claims once again that Ms. Stabenow is fighting for Michigan every day. In response, I issued the following statement:

“It is true that Michigan workers can compete with anybody. Unfortunately under the leadership of Debbie Stabenow, far too many Michigan citizens don’t have the chance to compete because they don’t have a job. For the first time in history, Michigan families make less money per year than the national average, while foreclosures and bankruptcies continue to rise. Senator Stabenow, with her record of raising taxes, neglecting education and obstructing common sense legislation, has done nothing to help Michigan’s ailing economy. This election is about Michigan’s way of life, and Debbie Stabenow has done nothing in six years to make it better. We deserve a senator who really will fight for Michigan every day.”

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Lansing) said that she has crossed party lines to help boost Michigan’s economy.  In the 30 second ad that began airing Wednesday, Ms. Stabenow said what is important is not whether something is Republican or Democratic but helps the Michigan way of life. Are you smiling yet???

She said she has crossed the aisle to work with Republicans on tax cuts and on legislation to help keep tuition costs lower.

Our Republican response to Ms. Stabenow that she crosses the aisle… “about as often as a vegetarian enjoys a good steak.”  She will say ANYTHING to get re-elected.

We have a team from the Michigan Republicans that will follow Senator Stabenow around the state when she comes back to visit and hold her accountable for her policies and votes that are allowing illegal immigrants to flood into our country and take advantage of resources that taxpayer a footing the bill for.

Not only has she done nothing, she has voted against funding to help stop illegal immigration and to provide Social Security benefits for millions of illegal immigrants.

Stabenow voted against securing our borders by opposing the construction of a double-layered fence and vehicle barriers along the United States southern border to keep our illegal immigrants.

Stabenow voted against allowing the Secretary of Homeland Security from hiring an additional 800 additional Border Agents to help keep out illegal immigrants.

Stabenow voted to provide Social Security benefits to ALL illegal immigrants.

Stabenow voted against making English the official language of the United States of America….what language should it be???

Stabenow voted to give illegal immigrants “Amnesty” for breaking the law, coming here illegally, not paying taxes and taking advantage of your taxpayer funded benefits.

“Dangerously incompetent” Debbie Stabenow is going to be held accountable.

Together…we will make a difference!!!

69 Days to Victory!!!

Broken Promises Calendar:  No Results from Governor Granholm

"A Granholm-Cherry Administration will offer Lifelong Learning Loans for Michiganians to learn new skills at a certified training provider." (Blueprint for Michigan, pg. 13, September 2002)

No such program was ever established by Governor Granholm.

Senator Elizabeth Dole joined Sheriff Mike Bouchard today in a swing through Michigan.  With fundraisers in Ann Arbor and Traverse City…and Victory Center tours in Livonia and Grand Traverse County, Senator Dole and Bouchard had a very successful day laying the groundwork for this falls election.

Senator Dole chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee.  Joined by Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Bouchard and company had a whirlwind tour around Michigan.  Volunteers at our Victory Centers loved seeing Senator Dole.  She was kind enough to take picture, sign autographs and encourage our troops to do all they could to help elect Mike Bouchard to the U.S. Senate.

In the various speeches she gave throughout the state, Senator Dole made the case for change.  She told everyone how Mike Bouchard’s background and experience ranks him at the top of the list of folks seeking a seat in the U.S. Senate.  She talked about Stabenow’s record and drew a contrast between a doer and talker.  She was great!

Former Senator Spencer Abraham joined us at the event in Ann Arbor and Senator Bob Griffin showed up at the Traverse City event.  Senator Dole warmly reacted to her old collegues and talked about what a difference Michigan’s representation use to be.

Senator Dole and Mike Bouchard had a great day criss-crossing the state, making the case of why we need to make it Senator Mike Bouchard!

The Michigan Republican Party yesterday launched a new radio ad, reminding Governor Granholm that a deal isn’t a deal until both parties sign on.

In early August, Governor Granholm began publicizing a potential deal with Ford Motor Company in which the state was offering Ford a $151 million tax credit over 20 years.  As more and more details unfold, various news outlets have reported that Ford would not have to create a single new job, and could in fact lay off thousands more workers and still receive the tax credit.  Granholm has touted the “deal” with Ford in press releases, newspaper quotes, as well as on television and radio.  The truth: Ford has still, to this day, not accepted the package.

Touting the savings of thousands of jobs when a deal isn’t a deal is political gamesmanship at it’s worst. Governor Granholm needs to remember that leadership is about results, not press releases.  The Governor is pretending once again to save the day and completely avoiding the truth.  The truth is that the State of Michigan has offered Ford Motor Company a one hundred-and-fifty-million-dollar tax break that the company has not yet accepted.  Another little known fact: Ford does not have to create one new job to get this massive tax credit and in fact can layoff an additional 7,000-8,000 workers and still receive the tax cut.  Granholm is bragging about a deal and new jobs that do not exist.”

The ad will be playing statewide today and will run indefinitely.  To hear the ad, please visit http://www.migop.org/campaign_ads/Deal.mp3.

New Strategic Vision poll shows that the race for Governor and the race for U.S. Senate continue to be close.  Most significantly, the incumbents, Governor Granholm and Senator Stabenow cannot break 50% of those polled being willing to re-elect them.

Anytime an incumbent is at or below 50% against challengers….that spells trouble for the incumbent.  As we’ve said before…this is going to come down to the wire.

For poll results go to:

Democrats stoop to new lows.  Dick DeVos and others were volunteering at the Mel Trotter Ministries in downtown Grand Rapids…the Democrats decided to demonstrate outside the ministry.  To see photo go to:

If you want to see to what extremes the Democrats are willing to go…check out their ad and the DeVos for Governor response below:

http://migop.blogs.com/blog/2006/08/response_to_mdp.html

Victory Centers remain in full swing.  We are constantly looking for more volunteer to make phone calls, knock on doors and continue identifying supporter statewide.  If you can join us for an hour, several hours, daily, weekly…whatever you are willing to give…we need you help.  Together we will make a difference.

MDP protests soup kitchen

What was the Michigan Democratic Party up to today?  Protesting in front of a homeless shelter...classy.

The young man you see all the way to the right laughing, holding a video camera is a paid MDP staffer who follows Saul and Dick around getting photos, audio and video footage.

So, Republicans are in the soup kitchen, volunteering, led by Gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos who has repeatedly contributed time and money to the Mel Trotter Ministries in downtown Grand Rapids (where they were volunteering today) and the MDP protests.  Maybe Governor Granholm ought to find a little better use for her surrogates time...they should be ashamed of themselves.

Response to MDP animation "ad"

Please watch the following animation ad by Governor Granohlm's re-election, shown at their convention and featured in the Governor's Monday "talking points" to supporters:

http://www.devosforgovernor.com/Media/Flash/2006-08-28/DeVos_Flash_Three.htm

We don't expect the mainstream media to hold the Governor to any sort of standard of decency or truth, but you can! Together, let's blog, write, call, walk (door-to-door) and get the word out.

Oh, and after watching (please do) the "ad" here are some facts to pass along:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCRIPT: This is Dick. See Dick get a business from his Daddy. It's called Amway.
- Dick worked in the company from the bottom up, including everything from mowing the lawns to working in the manufacturing plant. Every job.
- Dick was called back to Amway to lead the company when his father had a heart attack. At the time, he was leading his own company, Windquest, creating more Michigan jobs.

SCRIPT: See Amway sales go down. Down and down. Dick has to do something. See Dick downsize. See Dick layoff workers. Over one thousand Michigan workers.
- When the company was struggling, Dick provided the leadership to cut the fat out of management and protect factory jobs. His leadership eventually saved the company and 4,000 Michigan jobs.
- The company gave many early retirements, and also worked to place people in new jobs outside of the company. Dick didn't cut a single manufacturing job.

- While many other manufacturers gave up on Michigan, went out of business, or filed for bankruptcy, Alticor stayed here, thrived and prospered. Today, Alticor supports over 4,000 Michigan jobs.
- Alticor has had 6 straight years of growth since the reorganization that Dick DeVos led. (Alticor News Release, 11/2/2005)

SCRIPT: See jobs go bye bye. Bye bye Michigan. Hello China! See Dick invest. See Dick invest in China. Over two hundred million dollars in China. See Dick create thousands of low wage jobs in China.
- Not one Michigan job has ever been shipped to China and nothing made in China is sold in the United States.
- Daniel Howes of the Detroit News called the claim that Dick shipped jobs to China "phony" and "demagoguery". (Detroit News, 8/21/2005)
- Brian Dickerson of the Detroit Free Press argues that "the allegation doesn't check out". (Detroit Free Press, 6/30/2006)
- This is simply another negative attack on the part of Governor Granholm that ignores all the facts. Even the Oakland Press argues that this attack "misses the mark". (Oakland Press, 8/27/2005)
- Dick's company opened a factory in China because it was required by Chinese law. 400 Michigan jobs are now directly supported by the sales in China.

SCRIPT: Good work Dick. Bad for Michigan.
- Dick's leadership in saving his company was good for Michigan. 4,000 Michigan jobs were saved because of the company's international investment.
- Alticor's China operations have created jobs right here in Michigan. 400 Michigan workers at the company's headquarters in Ada, Michigan work on China related business.
- Today Alticor sells products in over 70 counties, supporting jobs in Michigan. That's how Dick saved 4,000 Michigan jobs.
- In fact, Dick's experience selling Michigan made products across the world will benefit Michigan. Detroit News editor Nolan Finley argued that "Michigan could learn from DeVos' China experience". (Detroit News, 4/2/2006)
- Governor Granholm's attacks on Michigan companies selling products and expanding around the world slam hundreds of Michigan companies, like the Big 3, for expanding in other countries to sell their products, saving thousands of Michigan jobs.

SCRIPT: Now Dick wants a new job. See Dick run. See Dick run for governor. Run Dick, run! Dick sees the capitol. Dick likes the capitol. See Dick try and buy the capitol.
- 18,765 different Michigan citizens have supported Dick DeVos this year. More Michigan families have contributed to the DeVos campaign than to Granholm. Dick's campaign is not about one person, it is about the many Michigan families who are standing up for change.
- Dick DeVos can't be bought. He is not taking money from special interests.
- But Governor Granholm has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from special interests including dollars from oil companies, energy companies, unions and many others.

SCRIPT: How much will it cost? Dick doesn't care. See Dick claim to be a jobs maker.
- Dick DeVos is the only candidate for governor that has created jobs. He is the only candidate to actually run a manufacturing company and create jobs.
- Over 4,000 Michigan jobs were saved because of Dick's leadership.
- 29,000 people lost their jobs in last month alone under Governor Granholm's lack of leadership.

SCRIPT: Dick has a pamphlet. See Dick's pamphlet. Dick calls it his jobs plan. See Dick's job specifics. You can't!
- In June, Dick introduced The Michigan TurnAround Plan, consisting of 134 action points to turn our economy around and create more jobs.
- The Detroit Free Press called the Michigan TurnAround Plan "the most detailed set of objectives ever produced by a candidate for statewide office". (Detroit Free Press, 6/22/2006) And the Detroit News said that Dick's plan is "the kind of leadership needed to move Michigan out of its long-standing economic doldrums". (Detroit News, 6/22/2006)
- "The blueprint includes a slew of ideas" according to Joel Kurth of the Detroit News. (Detroit News, 6/22/2006)

SCRIPT: Dick says if being governor means managing a plan, Dick doesn't want the job. (Detroit News 6/22/2006)
- This is the real quote: "DeVos labeled his jobs plan "Version 2.0" and said it may evolve with time. Pointing to his business experience, he said he was open to new ideas and bold action. `At the end of the day, it's going to be about results and measurably getting the job done,' he said. `If the purpose of governor is to just execute a specific plan, then I'm not sure I want the job.'" Unlike Governor Granholm, Dick DeVos knows that Michigan families want results - not talk about plans that clearly are not working.

SCRIPT: Dick's plan is a secret. Dick says he won't tell us the secret until after the election.
- Dick's plan is no secret. The Michigan TurnAround Plan is available on the web at www.themichiganturnaroundplan.com. And, Dick DeVos has gone on television to share his vision and message. Yet another sad lie from Governor Granholm.
- Just go check out the plan, it contains hundreds of new ideas to turn Michigan's economy around.

SCRIPT: But we know Dick's plan calls for lots and lots of new spending. Spend Dick spend!
- Not true. Dick DeVos does not support raising taxes. This attack is trying to muddy up Governor Granholm's failure to run state government. She has proposed, signed or supported over 50 tax increases totaling over $2 billion. The state budget has increased over $4 billion under her administration. Talk about lots of new spending.
- Dick knows how to manage and get results with government. His plan calls for over $800 million in cuts. Whereas Governor Granholm has no plan to cut waste, fraud or abuse. And under the Granholm administration, the state budget has grown by over $4 billion. In a massive state government budget, Dick believes there is always waste that can be cut out. Dick will put the budgets of Michigan's families before the budget of Lansing's special interests by not raising taxes and eliminating wasteful spending.

SCRIPT: Who will pay for Dick's plan? You'll pay!
- This is a complete lie. Unlike Governor Granholm, who already has raised taxes, Dick will not raise taxes on Michigan families. This is a simply a scare tactic produced by Governor Granholm and her spokespeople.
- Could it be any worse? Michigan residents are already paying with the worst economy in the nation. While the rest of the nation has gained over 5 million jobs, Michigan has lost over 100,000 jobs.

SCRIPT: See Dick's positions on the issues. Oops. Dick doesn't take positions on the issues. Dick says issues are complicated. (MIRS 3/31/06)
- This is a ridiculous lie. Yet another out of context lie by the Granholm attack crew. For more of Dick's views on the issues, go to www.devosforgovernor.com/issues.

SCRIPT: Dick has friends. George Bush is his friend. See Dick help George Bush. Six hundred and two thousand dollars! See Dick and George hurt Michigan. Bad Dick. Bad George.
- Dick is an independent Republican who can get the job done for the people of Michigan.
- Just last week, Dick charged the White House with ignoring the Big 3 and demanded that President Bush start addressing the needs of Michigan automakers.

SCRIPT: Not everyone is Dicks' friend. We're not Dick's friends. We don't believe in Dick.
- Dick DeVos is the only candidate who is not taking Special Interest PAC money. So it is true that the big money special interests don't like Dick DeVos.

SCRIPT: Should Dick be able to buy the capitol? We want Dick right back where he belongs. Dick, go! On a slow boat back to China.
- Given Governor Granholm's record, if we don't change, another 1500 police officers and another 104,000 workers will be without a job.
- What Michigan needs is to put Dick DeVos in the capitol. Only then will Michigan be able to start it's turnaround by creating jobs and growing the economy.
- Governor Granholm's attacks on job makers are dangerous. Michigan needs job makers if Michigan wants jobs. With these kinds of negative attacks on job makers, no wonder Michigan is the only state to lose jobs three years in a row. Michigan lost 29,000 in last month alone. How do these attacks create any jobs?

SCRIPT: The end.

A bit of humor...he missed Granholm & Stabenow

Bus Tour Rolls On – Senator Dole joins Bouchard – Granholm campaign goes Dark?

The “The Change We Need” bus tour rolled through mid Michigan yesterday.  Leaving Saginaw, the bus tour visited Lansing, Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and ended up in  St. Joe.  Today the tour will travel through St. Joe, Holland and finish the tour in Grand Rapids.  Next stop…anywhere and everywhere in Michigan!

Dick DeVos, Ruth Johnson, Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and Atttorney General Mike Cox lead the team throughout the day.  The crew included Board of Education member Eileen Weiser and candidate Tom McMillan.  Supreme Court candidate Marc Shulman and U of M Regent candidate Susan Brown rounded out the team.

Today, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole will be in Michigan to support the campaign of Sheriff Mike Bouchard.  We will have events form Ann Arbor to Traverse City as Michigan Republican put together a campaign to take down “Do Nothing Debbie”.

Mike Bouchard has been criss-crossing the state drawing attention to the fact that Debbie Stabenow continues to vote against the interests of Michigan and our citizens. Stabenow votes against border security and then supports amnesty and social security for illegal aliens.  Stabenow votes for tax increases over 100 times.  Stabenow gets caught up in partisan politics and votes to filibuster and obstruct the work of the Senate.  Michigan deserves a Senator who will represent us…let’s make it Senator Bouchard!!!

They’re dark….Michigan Democrats and the Granholm for Governor campaign are off the air as of last evening???  Neither Dem group has any ads placed on any of the networks…umm, having some problems?

Two options come to mind:

1) they are having money problems..

2) reportable committee goes dark while the secret 527 committees hit the air..

The Granholm campaign has been funneling money into their super secret Partnership for Progress - that has since funneled money to others committees.  Outside of the political world, they normally call this “laundering”.   I still find it beyond comprehension that the press has allowed Granholm’s campaign to hide MILLIONS of dollars in campaign funds without any reporting, filing or disclosure.

Just imagine how they would have gone after John Engler or other Republicans if they would have tried something like this???

For the record, NO other Republican candidate has ever done anything like this.  We now understand Democrat Bonior did something similar.  So…Democrats play shell games with cash, but the press “sees nothing”.  I feel like Schultz on Hogan’s Heroes!?!

Later today, we will be visiting Victory Centers in Livonia and Traverse City with Senator Elizabeth Dole and Sheriff Mike Bouchard.  Michigan Republicans continue to lead the country in making phone calls.  We have lead the country in voter contacts and for 6 weeks in the row we have made over 20% of all the calls made by Republicans in the country.

Here is a copy of the blog post on Dem/liberal site Kos who gives Democrats in 2008 a plan or “commandments” they should abide by to run for office.  It gives us a good idea how Democrats might position themselves to run next time around:

http://migop.blogs.com/blog/2006/08/democrats_10_co.html

We need your help, daily, weekly or by the hour.  Whatever you can give - it matters and does make a difference.  Building our Voter Vault and doing all the “id” work we do daily will be critical as we turn out our vote this November.

We have completed our new telephone match and update with the SOS Qualified Voter File, giving us the most up to date and sophisticated voter list available to any and all Republicans this fall. We have also incorporated the latest “Micro Targeting” data to identify targeted households to help motivate our potential voters.   In cooperation with the Republican National Committee, we have invested millions of dollars and thousands of hours in this effort to make it available to our candidates this fall.

Let’s make every day count.

Democrats 10 Commandments for 2008

Thanks to Bloggin on Down the Rogue for finding part of the Dem's campaign strategy for 2008...how to run/spin as a Democrat...

Democrat 10 Commandments for 2008
Found posted at dKos...

TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR 2008 DEMOCRATS

1. Don't feel my pain - give me something to alleviate it. Democrats don't want to be told what's wrong with America. They want to be told what you plan to do about it. They're not looking for the diagnosis - they know what ails them. They want the cure. The candidate most focused on "solutions" will have the advantage.

2. Leave Bush out of it. We know why we don't like him. Tell us why we should like you instead. They hear enough Bush-bashing and engage in it themselves. They assume all the Democratic candidates feel as they do: it's time for a change. They're looking for the candidate that articulates the answer to the specific problem Bush created.

3. What would Jesus do? Tell me what YOU would do and leave Jesus out of it. The time for a conversation about faith and spirituality is in the general election, not the primaries. Democrats don't want to hear about your church. If they really cared, they'd be Republicans.

4. Don't tell me what's wrong with America unless you can tell me what you're going to do to make it right. A litany of all that has gone wrong in the past five years is telling them what they already know. The candidate who tells them what they plan to do about it will win their support.

5. Tell me something new. Tell me something I don't already know. It may sound like a Gary Hart-esque approach but Democrats are really looking for a nominee with new ideas, someone with an innovative approach. Been there, done that won't sell in 2008.

6. Be a Deficit Democrat. Every time a Democratic candidate talked about ending wasteful spending and tackling the deficit, the dials spiked up, as did the approval. In the arena of deficit spending, there really isn't much difference between Democrats and Republicans.

7. The 2008 Agenda: education, healthcare, prescription drugs, energy independence. The war in Iraq may grab the headlines and the attention, but Democrats are much more focused on concerns right here at home. `Bring the troops home,' they complained. Tell us what you're going to do to improve our quality of life right here in America.

8. The 2008 Attributes: intelligence, competence, accountability, getting things done, passion, honesty and being ethical. Attributes matter, as does style. The 2008 contest is not just about the issues. It's also about who the candidates are and what they are truly about. Smart is in. Accountability and integrity are necessities. And passion - yes passion - is a prerequisite.

9. You are the message. Watch the negativity. Democrats want hope. Beating up on Republicans will generate applause, but it doesn't generate votes. The candidates focused on the future will have a significant advantage. The candidate that generates the most hope in a better future will win the nomination.

10. Winning is everything. And the only thing. As in 2004, Democrats want to win. Unlike 2004, they REALLY want to win. No candidate will secure the nomination whom they fear will lose to the Republican nominee. Electability is going to play a major role in 2008.

"...It has been very properly the policy of our Government to cultivate peace.  But in contemplating the possibility of our being driven to unqualified War, it will be wise to anticipate that frequently the most effectual way to defend is to attack."

George Washington
December 13, 1798

The DeVos bus tour continues today through mid-Michigan.  Attorney General Mike Cox and Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land as well as other statewide candidates will be joining Dick DeVos as they continue their tour of the state.

Yesterday, Dick and the ticket went to church in Detroit, a fundraiser in West Bloomfield, the Ukrainian festival, church in Flint and are over-nighting in Saginaw.

The Democrats nominated Amos Williams for Attorney General.  How did Amos get famous?  Suing Cops.  Over the next few weeks, Michigan is going to get to know all the frivolous lawsuits that Amos Williams filed costing police departments and taxpayers so much money.

Mike Cox's record of protecting consumers, children, seniors and taxpayers while working with law enforcement to fight crime in Michigan ensures that we will re-elect the best Attorney General in the nation.

Governor Granholm’s candidate, Scott Bowen, got dumped by the convention…showing what little power and influence the Governor really has among the Democratic Party.

The Democrats also nominated Carmella Sabaugh for Secretary of State.  Ironically and hypocritically, she denounces partisan politics by clerks.  All one has to do is check the Macomb Daily and you’ll find where Sabaugh publicly supported John Kerry for President during the last campaign…while being the sitting Clerk of Macomb County.

At the same time, Carmella Sabaugh has come out for “same day registration”. Can you imagine the possibility and incentive for voter fraud and gamesmanship on behalf of those who have no ethical bounds.  If you thought the stories from Chicago were bad?

The really amazing thing is that the Democratic Party has nominated a previously endorsed Right to Life candidate for SOS.  Sabaugh’s position  - when taken by Republicans has been called “extreme” by this same Democrat Party.  Looks like Emily’s List and their allies lost an internal fight here.  Does it change the party’s rhetoric, or will they have a double standard?

Overall the State Convention was a great success.   This is the first time we have ever used the Rock Financial Center.  I received several emails yesterday as well as comments at the convention.  I would like to ask you to send any comments, suggestions and/or constructive criticism of the event to me.  I want to make sure we keep a file of how we could make the convention better and if we ever consider using the Rock again, your comments will be on file and helpful for planning the next event.

It’s back to the Victory Centers statewide.  We need volunteers to continue making phone calls, knocking on doors and delivering our Republican message to voters.  Voter Vault is updated daily and is available for Republican candidate across the state.  We have literally invested millions of dollars in conjunction with the Republican National Committee to make this the best voter list available anywhere.

We need your help to continue this effort.  Every hour you can give, makes a difference.  So please join our effort statewide and give whatever you can.

Thanks again for all you do.

Freedom is when the people can speak, democracy is when the government listens.
Alastair Farrugia

I think Michigan is listening…and watching jobs leave our state as we fight a single state recession led by Governor Granholm as the rest of the country produces over 5.3 million new jobs…while we lose over 103,000 jobs under Granholm.

Michigan Republicans came out of our convention yesterday united, fired up and ready for battle to help turn Michigan around.

In contrast to the Democrat convention…where Governor Granholm did little more than ignored her record of job loss, whitewash her lack of leadership and pandering to special interests.  Instead she launched into rationalization of what has been referred to her “state of denial”, attacking Dick Devos and blaming the ills of the world and Michigan on China and…well, just fill in the blank.

Dick DeVos rocked the convention with a dynamic and passionate speech about his vision for Michigan and the need for a change.

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and Attorney General Mike Cox generated tons of excitement as their “teams” provided a constant presence of young folks and enthusiasm as they worked Friday’s caucuses and then provided lots of excitement on the floor of the convention. Both had great video presentations and gave stirring speeches the laid out their records of success and plans for the future.  It was an upbeat and positive message that made the case of why we need to re-elect two of Michigan’s most effective office holders.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard delivered a fantastic speech, drawing a clear contrast between where he and Debbie Stabenow stand on the issues.  Their styles, their perspective and their vision for Michigan and America couldn’t be more different.  One of Mike’s best lines was that if he came back after six years in the United States Senate and all he had managed to do was pass a bill to change the name of a federal building in Detroit…”fire me”.  Mike stood on stage with his family and made a clear and compelling case of why Michigan needs to send Mike Bouchard to the U.S. Senate.

Mike was introduced by Keith Butler who in his classic fiery style laid out the case of why Debbie Stabenow must go.  Using his now universally accepted line about “Do Nothing Debbie”, Keith talked about the values we Republicans share, how Mike Bouchard has fought for those values throughout his career in law enforcement and in the legislature…and how Mike Bouchard is the change Michigan and our country needs.  What a class act!!!

We closed the convention with a speech and stage performance of the likes we have never seen.  I’ve been going to convention for over 20 years and never saw or heard a candidate do a better job of delivering a message, drawing a contrast and firing up the delegates as Dick DeVos did!  Dick walked the stage and laid out a stark contrast between a businessman and leader who understands, who has created jobs, who has run a manufacturing business, who has successfully competed around the world, who keeps his promises, who isn’t tied to special interests, and most importantly who has the vision and plan to turn Michigan around.  Granholm vs DeVos….night and day!

DeVos didn’t play the blame game.  He didn’t look for excuses.  He encouraged action…leadership…experience…and commitment to make a difference.

Dick DeVos delivered one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard.  And I say that not in the traditional sense of purely stage presence, but rather in the perspective of style and substance.  He was forceful, passionate and direct.  His message was clear, succinct and powerful.  He was comfortable, confident and clearly in charge.  He actually looked like a man who could…should be our Governor!

As one delegate told me after the speech “I was worried about Dick going up against a trained actress, who’s stage presence and style is second to none…but he’s come a long way…this is going to be a horse race.” I couldn’t agree more.

The “Bus Tour” left the convention with much of the ticket on board.  Over the next 4 days, Dick DeVos and other statewide Republican candidates will be traveling around Michigan, introducing candidates to Michigan voters, delivering our message of the change we need…one on one in communities around our state.

Mike Bouchard, Mike Cox, Maura Corrigan, Marc Shulman, Dave Porteous, Andy McLemore and John Akouri joined Dick as we made our first leg of the trip “Downriver”.

On our second stop in the city of Wayne, we met up with a over 50 bikers from the metro Detroit are.  DeVos, Johnson, Bouchard and I quickly changed our clothes, threw on some riding boots and got on our Harleys.

We road from Wayne to Lincoln Park, meeting with voters along the way.  Over 50 bikers join the DeVos team on a ride for change.  DeVos led the ride on his Harley Softail, as riders with DeVos and Bouchard stickers took to the road.  It’s not your father’s old Republican party folks!!!

http://migop.blogs.com/blog/2006/08/not_your_father.html

This weekend is a study in contrast.

The Democrats convention and speeches are all about excuses and blame.  The Republicans talked about hope, plans and the future.

The Democrats could let a weekend go by without stooping to their classic dirty tricks.  They brought some guy fresh out of Connecticut to tape the convention and “spin his perspective” to some of the media and others pretending to be a “volunteer” for the party.  He misrepresented himself, illegally acquired credentials that allowed him full access to our convention.  He was trying to monkey with convention and interfere with the press and once he was confronted about his “strange activities” he quickly exited the convention.  He showed up later at our last stop in Southfield, clearly one of the Michigan Democratic Party’s latest dirty tricksters…in contrast, we have bracketers, who openly and honestly attend events, tape candidates, put up the Jobs Clock and Border Clock at Democrat events.  Open, honest and straightforward….even though we’ve received some tough treatment from the folks on the other side.

Anyways, sorry for the delay this morning, but I needed a good, long nights sleep.  My feet are still tingling from all the running around we did over the last two days.

This was a great weekend for Republican.  Our State Convention was a big hit.  The ticket is set and ready to go.  Clearly, this is one of the strongest tickets the Republican Party has ever fielded for the fall election.  Our activists smell blood, we’re better organized than we’ve ever been before…and we’re ready to take our message of hope and provide the change we need to turn Michigan around.

Let’s go get em!!!

Not your Father's old Republican Party

Ddv_pre_ride_3

Dick DeVos greets "Bikers for DeVos" as we gathered after today's State Convention.  Over 50 bikers joined Dick DeVos, Ruth Johnson, Mike Bouchard and me (Saul) as we took a ride Downriver from Wayne to Lincoln Park.

We greeted voters after the ride as Dick DeVos emerged as the leader of our "new" Republican party...which is NOT your father's old Republican party!!!

We had a great ride with many who attended our convention as well as other members from A.B.A.T.E.

Republican candidates are ready to create the change we need!

Attorney General Mike Cox took to the stage with a standing ovation as well. Mike Cox has worked hard to protect Michigan's children, consumers, and others during his past 4 years in office. Cox stated that he was proud to go to work every day, and his job is to stand up for Michigan-- not just Republicans, but Democrats, Independents, and all others as well.

Final_001

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land continues to stand for leadership, reform, and results.  Throughout her time in office she has seen many great victories to help drive Michigan forward and get the job done.  In addition to wanting to protect our borders, Terri Lynn Land also wants to protect MI drivers, with new drivers licenses that also function as a passport.  Land has additionally been working hard toward making more and more services available online, to allow busy Michigan citizens the ability to take care of many tasks without leaving the comfort of their home.  Her goal?  To keep driving Michigan forward, as we strive for the changes that Michigan needs!!

Final_002

Keith Butler took to the stage to introduce Michael Bouchard.  Butler talked about what critical times we are living in, both here in MI and in America.  He discussed how we need someone in Washington who understands.  Someone who understands that marriage is between a man and a woman .  Someone who understands that American culture must be preserved and protected. Someone who understands that our goal in life is not to work to earn wages, so that the government can redistribute the money, but that the wages we earn are for our families. As he introduced Mike Bouchard, he introduced him as the next senator for the great state of Michigan-- a man who understands all of the aforementioned items.

Final_003

Michael Bouchard discussed the solid Republican ticket that we have for this November's election.  Together, they have the ability to make Michigan and America a better place. Bouchard mentioned how numerous voters have told him how tired they are of politician's empty promises. They want a leader who thinks accountability is necessary! Bouchard has the ability to bring these results, just like he has during his entire law enforcement career.  His challenge to Michigan voters?  "If I come back in six years and all I have done is rename a federal building, FIRE ME!!"

Final_004

Our next Lieutenant Governor, Ruth Johnson took the stage next, continuing to carry her  message about how she will fight for Michigan's schools and Michigan's children. Johnson wants LG to stand for something new-- Less Government! Less government wasted, less government red tape. MichiFinal_005 gan needs less government, and more of Michigan's services!!

The afternoon culminated into an energetic event as Dick DeVos, our next Governor of the state of Michigan took to the stage, announcing that the time to turn Michigan around has arrived!! It's time to bring hope back to Michigan, to keep our jobs and our children in Michigan. The crowd cheered whole heartedly as DeVos annouced he is optimistic, excited, and READY to be the next Governor of the state of Michigan! Michigan needs change, and Dick DeVos is the change that Michigan needs!!

State Convention Continues

Excitement continues to run high as we enter the last and final day of State Convention.  Over 3,000 Michigan Republicans have gathered to show their support, in order to bring about "The Change We Need" for Michigan.

Speaker of the House, Craig DeRoche got a wild round of applause after announcing that he doesn't want to see 4 more years of jobs going to states other than Michigan.

MRP Chairman, Saulius "Saul" Anuzis announced that together, Republicans can make a difference.  Republican volunteers have been working harder than ever this election cycle, to get as many Republicans elected as possible. By June 7th of this year, Michigan volunteers made more phone calls to voters than we had made in the entire 2004 election.   MRP has 27 Victory Centers statewide, all working together to get out the vote.  Saul discussed how we will win this election on the margin-- every vote counts.  He urged volunteers to knock on doors and volunteer at phone banks.  Every little bit counts, because together we CAN make a difference.

Saul also went on to speak about Michigan's current Governor, Jennifer Granholm.  Granholm has made many promises to Michigan, yet she has kept very few of them.  MRP unveiled it's "75 Days of  Broken Promises" calendar, highlighting Granholm's lack of results for the state of Michigan.  Michigan is in a single state recession.  We are the only state in the country that has lost jobs that has NOT been hit by a hurricane. Granholm can't continue to blame Bush for our state's woes, since 49 other states are moving forward.  We're losing 1 job for every 20 minutes that Granholm has been in office.  Who are we losing jobs to?  Neighboring states such as Ohio and Indiana.

Meanwhile, Do-Nothing Debbie has done nothing for the state of Michigan during her six years in office.  In six long years, she has only passed one bill that she has sponsored-- and that was to rename a federal building in Detroit.  Stabenow also voted against securing our nation's borders and against making English the national language.

Saul received a standing ovation at the end of his speech, again making the point that Stabenow and Granholm are NOT able to bring about the changes that Michigan so desperately needs.

State Convention Kicks Off…Romney does Michigan…Candidates make the Rounds…75 days of Broken Promises hits the street…A Great start of the Convention!

Thousands of Michigan Republicans gathered last night in Oakland County as we kicked off our State Convention.  Michigan Republicans smell blood!

Romney

Governor Mitt Romney, who chairs the Republican Governors Association, hosted a “pizza and politics” party for all the attendees.  He took the time to talk with many as he thanked all for their work and stressed how important it was to elect Dick DeVos as our next Governor.  Governor Romney was clearly the “hit” of  Friday night.  He worked the convention hall and his tent reception like a classic “candidate”.

While participating in the “round robins” with all our statewide candidates, Romney pitched his role as the Republican Governors Association chair and the importance of electing Dick DeVos our next Governor.  Here is where “we Republican Governors” stand on the issues and this is why it’s important that you elect Dick DeVos as your next Governor…and with out saying a word, his “signal” for ’08 was lout and clear.

Congressional Districts held their caucuses last night.  SOS Terri Lynn Land and AG Mike Cox along with Sheriff Michael Bouchard and Betsy DeVos on behalf of Dick made the rounds with our other statewide candidates.  Everyone shared their excitement and vision for what Michigan could be with new leadership!

We ended up the evening at a party hosted by our Congressional District Chairs.  Senator Lott delivered a taped message thanking the grassroots activists for their time and efforts.

This morning, we will be delivering our 75 days of Broken Promises calendar to all the delegates and alternates attending the convention.  We distributed thousand this weekend and mailing more to activists around the state.   This calendar documents 75 promises that Governor Granholm has made as a politician and hasn’t kept as Governor.  Surprise?

Governor Granholm has made many promises on the most important issues that the people of Michigan face today, such as the economy, education and public safety.

No one forced her to make these promises.  The fact is, she did…and she hasn’t come close to coming through.  Granholm…nothing more than politics as usual.

Today we will formally nominate our slate of candidates to help turn Michigan around.  We have one of the strongest tickets the Republicans have ever put forth…giving the people of Michigan a clear choice…the failed policies of the past or new leadership for the future.

The plan is finish off our convention with a bus tour around the state over the next few days.  Statewide candidates will be joining Dick DeVos and Mike Bouchard on a tour throughout Michigan.

This afternoon, Dick  DeVos, LG Ruth Johnson, Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Speaker Craig DeRoche and yours truly, the state party chairman,  will be leading a “Biker for DeVos” ride through Downriver Michigan.  We anticipate a group of bikers from the metro Detroit area to join us and visit a number of cities and stops…as Michigan Republicans send a signal to the voters of Michigan that this is not “your fathers Republican party”.

The future of the Republican party is bold, innovative and committed to help turn Michigan around.  Our party is diverse, invigorated and ready to lead!!!

Join us in this battle to help turn Michigan around.  Together, we can make every day count!!!

Promises Made – Promised Broken…Mehlman in MI…Dem in-fighting…State Convention.

75 days of Broken Promises….No Results from Governor Granholm.

Today at the convention we will be handing out a calendar of Granholm’s promises made and promises broken.  Governor Granholm has made many promises on the most important issues that the people of Michigan face today, such as the economy, education and public safety.

No one forced her to make these promises.  The fact is, she did…and she hasn’t come close to coming through.  Politics as usual.

Ken Mehlman wrapped up a two day tour of west Michigan.  We held four fundraisers for Mike Bouchard and visited Victory Centers on the way.  Chairman Mehlman talked about the unique opportunities that exist in Michigan.  While Republicans around the country are on the defensive…Michigan Republicans are aggressively looking at electing a new Republican Governor and U.S. Senator.

This weekend we will re-nominate Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and Attorney General Mike Cox who will help lead Republicans statewide.  Land and Cox have some of the best records of accomplishment among their peers nationwide.  While the Democrats struggle with “internal” politics to pick a nominee, our nominees have been fully engaged for months taking their message of success and records of accomplishment to the people of Michigan.

It really doesn’t matter who the Democrats nominate, Secretary of State Land and Attorney General Cox are ready to win!  We can’t take anything for granted, they will be putting up signs, passing out literature and laying out their record and plans.

Together with the House and Senate majorities…Michigan Republicans are ready for victory.

Now the Democrats are trying to “kiss and make up”.  Special interests, unions and various constituencies are fighting one another to set an agenda and nominees.  Great entertainment and even a greater opportunity for this November.  As a divided and confused Democratic party tries to put together a ticket that can only run on blaming others, distorting our record and hiding from theirs…we ARE poised for victory.

Democrats are looking at nominating and supporting Right to Life candidate for statewide offices.  The irony is almost too much, having candidates running on the Democratic ticket who “share our values” that the Democrats label as “extreme” if those same views are held by Republican candidates???

For my blog post on the Democrats supporting Right to Life candidates go to:

Some of you may have seen a series of emails and/or email exchanges between Debbie Schlussel and myself.  She has launched a series of attacks against Marc Shulman (who defeated her in their first legislative primary years ago) and blames me for all kinds of sinister things.  Her facts are confused, purposely distorted or just plain wrong.  I would normally not even respond to something like this, but this thing has gone bit beyond the norms of even dirty campaigning.  Anyways, if you have any specific questions please take the opportunity to talk to Marc Shulman directly and make sure you have all the information you need in perspective.

This is going to be a great weekend.  Republicans have one of the strongest tickets we have ever had going into a November election.  Republicans smell blood and we’re ready to do the work necessary to help turn Michigan around.

Together…let’s make every day count!

Democrats support Right to Life candidates???

It's weird to see the Michigan Democrats planning to nominate so many Right to Life candidates -

Carmella Sabaugh for Sec. of State,

George Perles for MSU Trustee,

Scott Bowen for AG.

If these same candidates were running as Republicans, the very same Democrat Party would waste no time branding them as 'extremists' because of this Right to Life position.

Emily's List names Michigan it's number one target?!?

Wonder if the irony of this will be noticed by anyone?
